Carolina EscuderoInterviewed in 2019
Carolina is part of the Say Hueque team. She has worked in the tourism industry during the last few years and has had the opportunity to travel to different destinations in Argentina and countries all over the world. When Carolina finished her studies she knew she wanted to share her passion for traveling and advise people who want to come to her country—so they can appreciate its beauty, diversity of nature, culture, and people.
How long have you lived in Argentina? What is your favorite part of living there?
I have lived in Argentina since I was born—27 years now. My favorite part of living here is the wide variety of activities we have. I live in Buenos Aires, which is a very active city. We have events in the city almost once a week, and of course, a huge foodie scene and amazing places to visit. There is always something to do.
What makes South America special and a place all people should travel to?
I think diversity is the glue that makes South America so special; not only in nature and in the destination, but also in the culture and the people.
What does a typical day look like for you at work?
On a typical day at Say Hueque, I’m answering emails, making quotes for trips, calling clients, organizing trips—and then making them happen! The team at Say Hueque makes it possible to be part of a group that works on hospitality, and I’m able to always be looking for the best experiences for travelers. We’re a team working to give personal advice and tips that make all the difference for the people we receive.
How does your own international experience influence the work you do?
I have been to Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Uruguay, and most countries in Europe—so my own international experiences have taught me a lot. When you know how things work in other countries, and when you know exactly what is really necessary while traveling, it gives you the opportunity to give travelers the best advice about what they will need, and what they should do.
How do you help support participants throughout their journey with Say Hueque?
I support participants through giving them all the advice necessary to be in my country in order to make them feel comfortable. I also support them through helping them arrange their trips in Argentina, and by trying to make it an unforgettable one!
What do you hope participants take home with them after their program?
I hope they can take home the experience of getting to know our culture, interacting with local people (and discovering their warmness), and seeing and experiencing the feeling of being in our incredible natural beauty.
How should participants prepare for their trips to Argentina?
It’s always a good idea to do some research first to find out which places you would like to visit, and to see if it is possible to see them all in the time you have! You definitely have to find out about distances between locations. Something very common with the travelers we receive is that they don't realize how big Argentina is, and that sometimes distances from place to place are quite far. Sometimes visitors have the idea to visit many destinations in one week, and this is not always possible. So, research helps prevent future disappointments. Also, in Argentina we have a very high season that goes from November to April, so if you plan to come then, I highly recommend booking your trip in advance.
What advice do you have for first-time travelers?
On your first trip, it’s good to have a draft of your ideal itinerary—this will help you organize transportation and bookings. Of course, this can change during the trip, but it will still be very useful.
If you could go on any trip with Say Hueque, where would you go and why?
I would go to Calafate, because I have never been there before and I have heard so many incredible things about the glaciers from my travelers. I need to see them!
Why should participants be excited to travel with Say Hueque?
Travelers should be excited to travel with Say Hueque because we organize trips for independent travelers and we are recognized as number one in this market. Our long history is a guarantee of trust, and we are always working to offer new experiences. We also offer personal assistance 24/7.
What are your hopes for the future of Say Hueque?
My hopes are that we not only continue offering an excellent service, but that we also rise to new challenges—and that we can adapt to new needs of travelers.
Why do you think it is important for people to travel and experience new cultures?
I think traveling and being in touch with people who live differently than you do is essential in life, because it makes you rethink how you are living.
What does meaningful travel mean to you?
Meaningful travel for me is what takes me to the deepest part of my essence. It's a way to, metaphorically speaking, shuffle and deal my life again.
