BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Bogus Basin officially opened for the summer Saturday.
“We’re just looking forward to folks coming up and enjoying Bogus Basin,” said Jamie Zolber, the Director of Skier Services at Bogus Basin.
Activities include the Glade Runner Mountain Coaster, scenic rides on the Deerpoint Chairlift, and the Shafer Butte Mining Co. gem panning station. Food and beverage offerings, featuring the Double R Ranch BBQ Smokehouse menu, will be served in the Simplot Lodge Base Area.
While there is some snow still on the mountain, that means there are some limitations.
“As soon as it starts to dry out a little bit and we get our hiking and biking trails open to everybody, as well as the fun zone.”
Zolber says for people looking to come up on the mountain, the best thing to do is plan ahead with the early summer conditions.
“We just ask folks to come up and be dressed for different types of weather," said Zolber. "Earlier today it was shorts and t-shirt weather and now its cooling off as we get some cloud cover.”
The only weather limitations that prevent Bogus Basin from operating is lighting.
“If there is any electricity in the air we don’t want anyone near it on the chairlifts or on mountain coaster,” said Zolber.
If this is the case, operations usually start back up right after the storm is passed.
“A rainstorm isn’t really anything but uncomfortable for somebody is they’re not prepared," said Zolber. "It is good to be prepared if they’re coming up to the mountains. Bring extra layers, wear a rain jacket its quite a bit cooler up here in the summer than it is in Boise.”
Preseason hours will be every Saturday and Sunday, plus Memorial Day, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Operations will expand to seven days a week operations beginning Thursday, June 20 with hours extending to 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
An estimated 100,000 guests visited Bogus Basin last year to hike, bike, do base area activities, and go to the Music on the Mountain, a free, family-friendly outdoor concert series.
New events on the mountain this summer include Bogus Fest, a two-day tribute band music festival on June 21-22, and the Boise MTN Bike Festival on August 24th.
